Rediscovery

Being a vampire and having an energetic puppy meant that you did a lot of walking indoors in order to make sure the puppy got its exercise.

Fortunately the school was more than big to satisfy, and that was even without including the basement since Angel had a gut instinct that Sean and Sunshine wouldn't get along (assuming Sunshine was still down there, and Angel wasn't going to be the one to check.)

This morning found Angel and a still Santa-hatted Sean wandering around the admin areas. Not really awake yet, Angel let Sean lead. The puppy snuffled his way through one hallway and another until he finally came up to a door that was in what appeared to be a much neglected corridor.

Normally Angel wouldn't have cared, but something on the door caught his eye.

"'Assistants Lounge'?" he read aloud. He frowned. "I didn't know we had an assistants' lounge."

He tested the door. The knob felt rusted, but it opened when he applied a little pressure or possibly it was locked and he just had vamp strength to open it, la la la.

The room was dark, but Angel could make out a table, some chairs, and a faded couch. He could also make out a very strong sent of mold, mildew, and dust.

Sean, for his part, thought this was fascinating. He darted into the room, leapt onto the couch, and immediately set off a dust cloud strong enough that it billowed out into the hall. Sean barked, pleased with his accomplishment.

"Oh yeah," Angel said. "That can't be good."

He decided to investigate.

"You didn't know that either?" Angel said automatically. Then he saw who he was talking to: Krycek, who he hadn't spoken to since the love spell.

Angel did not blush. "Oh. Kry. Hey."

Sean thankfully stepped forward to greet the newcomer. Angel leapt on that as a safe topic choice. "Meet my dog? His name's Sean."

Sam brightened slightly at that. "Ooh, year end bonuses. Wait, you got paid?"

She took a deep breath, and immediately regretted it when even her nose was full of the smell of that room. "Once more into the fray, and all of that, I guess, right?"

"Okay lack of dead bodies is always good!" she says nodding.

She rolls up her sleeves, "so where should we start?"

She looks down at the puppy, "vamp puppy?" she asks like it's the most normal thing in the world to ask

Krycek didn't bother to hide his smirk, but he didn't broach the topic of holiday orgies either, thankfully. "Sean? Hey boy," he said, putting out a hand for him to sniff and recieving a lick across his fingers for his trouble. "Wonder if anyone knows about this place." Krycek looked around as he ruffled Sean's ears distractedly.

"No, but wouldn't hate a cookie for all the extra work there was," Angel said. "Plus Ethics: that's gotta be worth combat bennies at least."

Angel looked around. "Why do I have a feeling we should turn the lights on before we lift or open anything?"

"No," Angel smiled, "and that's actually a new one. Most people ask if he's a student. Which he's not. Nah, just a regular lab. With a hat. I can't take that thing off him now, he loves it."

Angel took his coat off and folded it over one of the chairs. "Okay. Huh. Guess we could take an inventory of what's here. I'm seeing table, couch, some chairs... what, they couldn't spring for a coffee pot?"

"Based on the dust which smells like it dates back to when Istanbul was Constantinople, I'm guessing not," Angel said, glad Krycek wasn't bringing up anything about threesomes no matter how pretty that might be. "Say, you worked for Spider. That's like ultra-assistant. You telling me he never told you about this place?"

"Oh, man, you TA'ed Ethics?" She shuddered. "I heard stories about that class. My condolences."

"Lights are a definite. And maybe a bug bomb. And some mouse traps." She entered the room and winced. "And, god a new coat of paint."

"Maybe we should make a list?" Angel said. "And recruit some folks? There's plenty of assistants who haven't gone home for the holidays yet. I could put up a flyer or something, let them know the place is here and that way alert folks who are assistants but don't have this community friended."

"No." Krycek frowned, walking fully into the room as he dusted dog hair off his hands. "He didn't. Then again, the journalism classroom was pretty well outfitted, so maybe he thought we didn't need to be anywhere else. ...Or maybe he thought we needn't bother cleaning out a place that might need an acid wash to get it up to standard."

Sam nodded, happy to have a new project. And this looked like it could be quite the project. who had thought shag carpeting was a good idea? "I'll make the list, you make the flyer?"

"Well it is very cute" she says refering to his hat.

Paige pulls a notebok out of her bag. and starts to write stuff down. "yeah cos the lack of a coffeemaker's really our biggest problem here," she says with a raised eyebrow and yet another smirk

"Acid wash or fire," Angel said. He frowned as he looked at a dark pile in the far corner. "Okay, I really don't want to know what that is."

"You don't think this won't result in some all-nighters?" Angel countered. He thought about it. "Extra hands. I say no way we're excavating this on our own. Hey, might if I borrow some of that paper? I could post some notices around the dorms to let the other assistants know this place is here especially since some of them probably don't have this community friended yet."

"Sounds like a plan," Angel said. "I'll be right back."

Krycek saw Paige as he talked to Angel and nodded a greeting. "I might be able to drag in one of the Journalism coffee makers," he offered. "I haven't heard anything about a new teacher yet and I don't think anyone will miss it."

"Okay," Sam said, already distracted by making the mental list. "Is Mac around? I might need to get into the shop."

Making a face, Krycek glanced at it then away. "Maybe it's a former assistant; you might want to keep Sean from chewing on it anyway." Then, seeing Paige (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomassistant/1232.html?thread=31440#t31440), he nods to her in greeting.

"Yeah good point," she agrees ripping off some of the paper without sketches of Sawyer topless on and handing it too him.

"I'm actually going away today so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to help, sorry!"

"Oh good idea, so Spider's left then?" she asks

"Unfortunately," he muttered, frowning. "Sort of last minute, from what I could tell. Not sure what I'm doing next semester now, but I may see if the new staff wants me to stay on."

Paige nods, "Yeah one of the teacher's a was TAing for left a few weeks ago, I'm doing this and I have no idea if I'll even be a TA next semester."

She looks around the room, "Not that I'd mind not being able to spend time in here!"

Sam, finally tearing herself away from the horror that is this room, spotted Paige and Krycek. "Hey. Um, you think if we sent the pictures to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition they'd make an exception?"

"Maybe we need to have a student get sick from a mysterious fungus or something first," Krycek said, kicking the couch and raising another cloud of dust. "Get the sympathy, then they'll come running to help us out."

Paige grins, "wow that's actually I really good idea, but TV camera's here in Fandom? Are we sure we want to inflict this place on the TV viewing public?"
