Assistants' Lounge 1/11

Thursday morning before first period, Walter opened the TA's lounge and had to blow dust off the coffee maker before he could get some going. It seemed that no one had been in here in months.

Well, he couldn't really point fingers. He'd had a key since September and hadn't abused it. But he was now.

There was coffee and he decided he'd have his lunch there today as well.

"According to Arthur, I also nag too much. But I only do it for people I care about." Let the rest run off cliffs with Poe.

"DAMM for Dr. Orpheus. I get to make coffee and..." And what? "I'm not sure what. I don't really know anything about defending against malicious magic."

"What would Nadia think?"

Walter gave the broom a twirl that would have left even Nadia dizzy and grinned. "She'd be glad I wasn't practicing with someone tall dark and handsome?"

"Cleersnipe? ...Oh wait. He's short."

"Well, it's very sweet. Just also a little bit irritating."

*coughs*

Why does that cough strike fear? Damn you work environment that means I have to block icons for the sake of clandestine operation.

Well, maybe if his girlfriend would stop getting herself into life-threatening situations, he'd worry less.

That was a thought he didn't voice aloud, instead asking. "And what would be less irritating?"

"Steerpike," Walter corrected. He'd had to make himself get the name straight in his head. Alfred would have been quite displeased if he'd been unable to even remember a simple name, particularly for someone who looked so close to exactly like him.

"I was thinking El Professor."

"Trusting my judgement when it comes to espionage stuff?"

"You trust my judgment when it comes to my specialty, right? But you still worry." Enough to get Pippi to use her crystal ball when he'd been in Poland.

"You care about someone, you worry when they do something dangerous. But that doesn't mean I'll try to stop you from doing what you're good at and love."

Pippi frequently thought of El Professor, not that she let that slip.

"Right, Steerpike."

Nadia rolled her eyes a little playfully. "Okay, point. But M really seems on the level. You should talk to her, some time."

She'd seen he had a point. Huzzah! "I'd like that. I'm rather curious about her."

And on to other things. "So, my 'Tremble Foolish Mortals' teacher claims to be the Greek god of war."

Nadia frowned and thought. "You mean Ares? Huh. The guy on the radio the other night seemed to think he was Hades, Greek god of the underworld."

"I have no idea what Ms. Frost actually wants me to do," Tyler admitted. "But she asked. How'd you end up doing it for the Malicious Magic class?"

"It makes being Christian sort of..." Brain breaking? Thought provoking? "...interesting. I get the impression he has a problem with the arch-angel Michael?"

"Wouldn't just having Aziraphale around do that? And if he's a greek god, I would think he wouldn't be a big fan of a Christian god."

Walter shook his head and shrugged. "I met Dr. Orpheus on new student orientation day and got him a cup of coffee. The next thing I know he's telling me I'm one of his TAs."

"But the whole point of being a Christian is one God," Walter pointed out. "It's clearly spelled out in the Bible. He even gets pretty pissed off about it - you know, fire, brimstone, floods, those sorts of things."

He wasn't really interested in a theological discussion. He had a feeling he'd just file it away with other things that were brain breaky but didn't really change the way his day to day life operated - like living in the 21st century and how he made phone calls home to 1945.

"My other class turns out to be about magical artifacts. And their dangers." Now he knew what Arthur had chosen that one.

"I guess that's why you shouldn't get teachers coffee," Tyler said. "or talk to them." he considered. "Maybe we could just not be in the same room as them. Though the gig doesn't seem to be too bad so far."

"Ooo. I think I met that teacher. She'd never even heard of Rambaldi."

"Are you going to tell her about him? Or tell her more, since I assume you must have talked to her about him to know she hadn't heard of him."

Walter didn't think of El Professor. Or at least, not frequently.

"What did you think of Artifacts class today?"
