Assistants' Lounge, Wed afternoon

With free time before Self-Defense, Angel went down to the Assistants' Lounge and made himself comfortable.

Sean was there. He nosed around all the new things, his attention occasionally drawn to a certain cabinet.

Angel was busy drawing. Depending on when someone looked over his shoulder they might notice rough drafts of campaign posters, sketches of a certain blonde he'd gone out with on Sunday, or pictures that were really not appropriate for children to be looking at this last catagory might or might not have overlapped with the pictures of the blonde.

There was a pot of fresh coffee brewing.

Ever a gentleman, Angel took off his coat and gently draped it over Vala like a blanket.

"Blair's running for StuCo? Good for him." Angel frowned. "What's he need a leash for?"

"Yeah, hard to tell with that," Angel agreed. "Most pups are easily distracted. I think 'cause everything's new to them."

Angel gave Callisto a shy smile. "Hey."

"Hey, Alanna. Still panicked about Campaigning?"

"He might vibrate through a wall, or worse, tick off someone less congenial than me, the way he bibbles and bounces around." Parker shook her head. "He doesn't even drink coffee."

Alanna made a face. "How'd you - oh, right, the broadcast last night. Yeah, not so much panicking now as just reading, a lot."

"So he's a little enthusiastic," Angel said. "That's... good? Right?"

"Hey," Callisto smiled back, sipping her coffee. She nodded at the sketchbook. "What are you drawing?"

"Anything I can help with?" Angel asked. "I didn't live here for all of it, but I've still been around for most of the US's existence."

Suddenly remembering what he was drawing, Angel slammed the sketchbook shut. He tried, and failed miserably, to project a casual air. "Oh. You know. Nothing."

Callisto might have snickered. "If it's nothing you wouldn't mind me taking a look then?"

Alanna blinked. "Right. I could have figured that out. Well, mostly I'm just reading about the history of the parties. Expalian one thing, why left and right?"

Like many men the world over, it took Angel far too long to come up with a line of bullshit while his mind was currently stuck on wondering how much the girlfriend was not going to like the truth and, once she found out about it, how badly was she going to hurt him.

"It's... a surprise?"

"Enthusiasm is good. But he has *no* self-preservational instinct. Your dog has a better idea of how to protect itself!" Parker rolled her eyes. "Just... maybe figure out a way to get him to chill on occasion. Please?"

One advantage of being a female in a tradiationally male line of employment is that you get very good at detecting when a guy's bullshitting you. "If you show me, I promise to still act surprised."

Callisto may have pouted when she said that.

Rory looked over curiously. "Whatcha drawing?"

"Um. Okay."

Angel's line of thought was this: he'd been drawing rough drafts of campaign posters (good), pictures of Callisto (possibly good, depending on whether or not she was flattered or thought it came off stalkery), diagrams for the conversation with Cam and John that might take place later that night (ass kicking, definite ass kicking).

That meant he had a one in three chance of coming out of this alive.

He figured he could made those odds higher if he moved quickly.

"So, uh, I was working on this thing. You know, for Student Council?"

Whether or not Callisto noticed the other things he'd been working on as he quickly flipped past them was all dependant on how closely she was looking at his sketchbook.

"Because people turned out to be too stupid to handle the concept of more than two ideas at a time?"

"You were?" Callisto being the *cough* caring and supportive girlfriend that she was looked intently at the sketchbook pages as they got flipped over. "Hold on. Back up a few pages."

"We could try dosing him with decaf?"

"Well, aside from that. Why did they choose left and right? Couldn't they have just said east and west, hot and cold, I don't whatever? And why is the left liberal and the right conservative?"

"Or hitting him with a tranq dart."

Fortunately for him at that moment in time it was a rough draft for a campaign poster.

"This," he said, showing her while holding the book carefully so she couldn't turn the pages ZOMG. "Whaddya think? I'm not sure if the whole champion the voice of the students thing is to... I dunno. Communist."

Angel paused.

He really wished this was one of those times when he'd been paying close enough attention that he could use that intermittent photographic memory of his.

Sadly it wasn't, so he had to randomly guess at what might be a safe page to flip back to. Hopefully one without, as for example, diagrams of various positions one could enjoy oral sex in, complete with helpful arrows to the participants that said "John" and "Aeryn."
