He draped his arm around her shoulders. "I don't doubt that. Just...doesn't hurt to have muscle around in a tight spot, y'know?" He tried to make light of the situation, but he was the chronic protector type.
"I'm gonna pretend that was meant to be totally non-sexual in every way so I don't have to go find something to scrub my brain out." He grinned. "Glad you're okay though."
Charlie grinned. "Gee, thanks. But for real, I'll drop you a line every few days and, if it's not too much, will you do it too? We don't have to live in each others' pockets or nothing, but doesn't hurt to keep in touch. Y'know, just in case."
"Good." He felt better now for a combination of reasons. "Y'know, you're distracting me from my reading." He hastily added something. "Not that I'm complaining."
"Or maybe they're testing us. I still haven't ruled out the idea that this is ex-Principal Connor's petting zoo for freaks and geeks to survive the end of the world."
