Assistants Lounge, Tuesday February 14

Bel opened up the lounge in the morning, running over his sociology notes for class that afternoon. He had a kimono and hakama pants hanging from a hook on the wall, and a sake set on the table.

Cameron looked up at Bel, grinning just a bit. "Uh huh. All women are. It's something my mom taught me. Don't argue, you can't win. They own our asses and I think I kinda like it that way."

"They make it worth it," Cameron pointed out.

"True," Bel said, nodding, "but if your girl asked you to choose between her and your best friend, what would you do?"

Cameron tilted his head. "Depends, if my best friend is out to kill people she's probably right."

"You and I are from different worlds though," Bel pointed out. "Where I'm from...killing is a fact of life. The strong rule the weak. Kill or be killed."

Cameron frowned. "As far as I know Angelus didn't kill Kitty out of self-defense."

"No, but he's a vampire, it's what he does," Bel said. "Just like I'm a demon."

"So what? It's in your nature so let's not fight it and think for yourself?" Cameron asked.

"You don't know what it's like where I'm from," Bel growled.

"No, I don't." Cameron relented. "Except maybe that you called it hell and I can imagine the whole sulfur and brimstone thing isn't a doozy. I'm annoying enough to believe that everyone has a choice, though. You're not there anymore."

"I'm not there, but they still own me," Bel said. "I'm a demon, we serve the Source or die." He shrugged helplessly. "It's just the way it is."

Cameron frowned. "And no one's ever told the Source to stuff it?"

"Either they're dead or they're the new Source," Bel said. "And I don't think I'm really qualified for that job."

"There's always another option," Cameron said stubbornly. "Even if you have to make one."

"Like what?" Bel said. "Angelus was the only one who cared enough to help me. And the only one who might have the power to do it."

"Like you said, I'm not from your world but there's got to be something. Maybe in the Special Collection?" Cameron suggested.

"Like Parker and her cronies would let me anywhere near it," Bel said, rolling his eyes.

Cameron swallowed and considered his conversation on Monday with Professor Carter. "I got permission."

"They only let their friends in there, everyone knows that," Bel said. "Or are you offering to look for me?"

Cameron was quiet for a moment, the shell in his hand completely forgotten. "Depends. Would you use it? Or would you go find another excuse to be the bad boy?"

"I don't know. It would depend on what you found out," Bel said. "And I don't need Special Collections for that. I figured out where the Dragon Blade was on my own." He got an "Oh, hell!" look on his face as he realized what he just said.
