Time to start plotting revenge on Mommy Dearest.

Lana stops by early - not like she was sleeping anyway - to see Bel. "Can I just say how happy I am to see you *here*?" she asked.

Bel grinned. "Tell me about it. It's good to be back."

She shook her head, smiling at him, "I can't imagine how relieved you must feel. It was terrible for us knowing you were locked up, but to actually *be* behind bars... It's pretty miserable."

"You helped make it more tolerable, with the visiting and the books," Bel said. "Thanks, it really meant a lot."

Lana shrugged uncomfortably. "It wasn't much, but it was the least I could do. We all just felt so... helpless."

"Tell me about it," Bel said. "Especially being unable to shimmer. I've been doing that since I was five and it was weird not being able to."

"What's it like, shimmering?" Lana asked curiously. "I mean, it's obviously a really neat and quick way to travel, but what's it like? How do you manage to not to reappear in the middle of, say, a wall or something."

"It kinda makes people sick to their stomach the first few times they do it," Bel explained. "But you get used to it. And you learn to develop a sense of where the walls and ground are. Some demons, um, don't make it past elementary shimmering."

Lana shuddered, getting an image of Bel or some other random person trapped inside the heart of a stone. "Scary."

She hesitated for a moment, then decided to ask. "How far away can you shimmer? And do you have to know the place or a person there or... ?"

"I can shimmer between dimensions," Bel said proudly. "I can go across world in about 30 seconds. I don't have to have been there before but it's helpful. Want to try it some day?"

Lana thought for a moment, "Yeah, that might be fun. I think I'd like that."

She let out a deep breath. "What about, say... another galaxy?"

"I've never really tried," Bel said. "That might be a little too far for me. Why, you looking to visit another planet?"

Lana shrugged, looking a little embarrassed. "Stupid question, really. Just... wishful thinking."

"It's not stupid," Bel said. "It'd be pretty cool if I could do that. Maybe with lots of practice. But in the meantime there are people with ships around here that can do that, right?"

"No one I'd ask. And it's really far even by ship. It's okay, though, doesn't matter." She managed an almost normal smile. "But yeah, I'd like to take you up on that around the world thing. Maybe you and Phoebe and I could take a day and go to some exotic places. Um... can you take more than one person at a time?"

Bel nodded. "I can take one, no problem. Two I can handle okay as well. Three is pushing it."

"Well, then that sounds like fun. We could probably all use a break anyway." She smiled at him.

"Maybe if there's some time after finals and before summer school starts up," Bel said. "You sticking around for that?"

"I'm planning to. I'm just not ready to go back home."

"Any time you do need to make a quick trip home, just let me know, okay?" Bel said. "I can get you there and back, no problem."

Lana smiled at him. "You're so sweet. Thank you. Actually," she added. My club, the Weird Hometown support Group is supposed to be going to visit my hometown in a couple of weeks and you and Phoebe are welcome to join us. My guardian will fly us up in his jet and we can stay in his mansion. It should be fun."

"Sounds cool," Bel said. "Thanks for the invite. I'll mention it to Phoebe. Where exactly is your hometown, by the way, and why is it weird?"

"Smallville, Kansas," Lana replied. "And we have mutants caused by the meteor shower that killed my parents. They have all sorts of strange powers, but they all seem to turn evil."

"Power corrupts and all that, I guess," Bel said. "Well, if I'm there, no mutant is gonna have a chance to hurt you."

"Aw... you're just the nicest guy," Lana said. "I really appreciate it."

"Least I can do," Bel said.

Bel's in Speech and the lounge is closed.

Mother's Day is coming up...how does one wrap a flaming ball of death?

Sending Mom a bouquet of hemlock and nightshade might be appropriate.

Large pizza, pepperoni and sausage, extra cheese. There's some to share.

Bel idly wonders how many other people in the school have mommy issues and if they should form a support group.

Kiki comes in, coughing. "Bel!" she smiles warmly. "It is so good to see you - *cough* - especially as you're not behind bars!"

She coughs into her hand again. "Don't worry, I'm pretty sure I'm not contagious."

"Thanks for the visiting," Bel said. "I would've lost my mind if I'd been stuck in there the entire time without anyone to talk to." He peered at Kiki. "You getting sick?"

Kiki made a face. "Unfortunately. I just need to catch up on some sleep and then I should be fine," she shrugged optimistically. "So they've finally woken up and realized you didn't do it, but do they have any idea who did? *cough* Or why?"

"They've got a few suspects I guess," Bel said evasively. "Probably some other demon. Not sure why Allie, though."

"Huh. *cough* Well, at least they're working on actually solving it," Kiki replied. "Rather than just accusing the first person who happens to be convenient."

Kiki smothered another cough. "Those troopers, honestly? Give me a bad case of the heebie jeebies. And Tex controls all of them, which is also...er, disturbing, I guess."

"You know, I know they have those helmets on and all, but I couldn't tell any of them apart," Bel said. "They even sounded the same. For awhile I thought it was one guy who didn't sleep who was keeping an eye on me."

"That?" Kiki said, "did very little to get rid of the heebie jeebies. That's just creepy!"

*coff coff*

Bel looked at Kiki in concern. "Maybe you should be getting some rest," he said. "You don't sound so good."

She gave him a smile. "Probably. Especially as I don't have any classes today. I did sleep in, but there's only so long I can spend in bed before it starts driving me a little nuts. Besides (*coff*), I wanted to see how you were doing, and I figured I might find you here."

"Still getting used to being a free man again," Bel said, grinning. "The food is so much better and so is the scenery."

Kiki quirked an eyebrow. "Have you been to the cafeteria lately?" she asked. She giggled, coughed, and giggled again.

Bel's off to Sociology and the lounge is closed for the rest of the day unless another TA opens it.
