TA Lounge, Thursday 14th Sept

Now Mac has her TA lounge keys, she's going to make the most of it. Jake told her way back when she first arrived that the coffee there was the best in the school. She's just testing out that theory.

She has her laptop playing music at her, lots of coffee, pens, and a large stack of paper to keep her occupied.

"That's a good start, better than some of my earlier attempts." Mac pulled out her latest design-gone-wrong, and attempted to fold it into a swan. "I never have been very good at the origami thing," she said as she folded, apparently at random.

"I've never really tried it." Nadia finished refolding and threw again, this time adjusting her grip, the strength, and the angle of the toss. It went a good 8 feet before curving to the left and nosediving. "But I had to learn a thing or two about aerodynamics in my training."

"I used to think origami was cool when I was little, but didn't really have the patience to do it well."

Mac watched as the plane fly, and pouted. "Damn, they must have taught you well with all the aerodynamics stuff. You're picking this up fast."

"I've always been good at 3 dimensional, hands on stuff. It's the theory that sometimes trips me up." Nadia picked up the plane again, this time ripping tiny rudders into the backs of the wings to correct the curve.

Suddenly it all seems to make sense, "Ah, yeah see I can deal with the theory, it's the 'remembering which bit to fold when' part that gets me."

Mac pulls out her supposed-to-be swan and eyes it suspiciously. "Does that look like a bird to you?"

Nadia tilted her head as she looked at it. "It does seem to have wings?"

Mac pulled a face and attempted to make the wings flap like they're supposed to. They didn't move. "Yeah I think I did something weird." And with that started to unfold in an attempt to rectify the problem.

"Well, it still looks neat, at least."

"Thanks, but somehow I think you're just humouring me." Mac laughed, and refolded. This time the wings actually moved. "Check it out, I may be master origami-ist yet... I should probably work out what my proper title is before I adopt it though."

Alas, Mac lost Nadia completely when she started talking about titling her paper and adopting it.

"You should name it Bob."

Mac grinned, "I think that's a very sensible plan. Every self respecting origami bird needs a name." She pulled out the nearest pen, which turned out to be purple, and scrawled 'Bob' along the side. "Perfect. Are you going to name your plane?"

"Why would I name a plane?"

"You lovingly folded that plane for a good five minutes," Mac reminded her. "It deserves its own name... or at the very least a model number."

Nadia thought about this. "Any suggestions?"

Mac thought about it for a long moment, "I had a book when I was a kid about a plane called Benji, so I vote Benji."

"Benji it is."

Mac grinned, "and a very good Benji he makes."

"Now all we need to know, is does he fly, or does he nosedive spectacularly."

"Well, technically, it'd be ~~falling with style~~ gliding." Nadia made a few more adjustments, gaged the direction and speed of the airconditioning, and gave the plane a gentle toss.

It spiraled around in a circle to land neatly on the floor.

"That wasn't quite what I wanted it to do. . . ."

"Ooh, but pretty flying pattern though," Mac pointed out. She picked up one of her own, thew it, and watched it collide with the floor, again. "Yeah, see mine doesn't even do that."

At this point, Mac decided to give up, and rolled her airplane into a ball. "So what class is it you do your TA-ing for?"

"Dance. We're going to do the tango today!"

"Really? That's so cool." Mac fiddled absently with her paper ball, rolling it back and forth across the table. "I've always sucked at that whole co-ordination deal. I'm guessing dance is something you're pretty good at?"

"I've been doing it since I was five. You're not one of those people who thinks that they can't dance, are you?"

"It's not so much that I think I can't, I just don't." Mac grinned sheepishly, "and therefore I'm avoiding the embarassment potential of finding out that I can't."

"That's dumb. Everyone should dance."

Mac cocked her head to the side in a question, "Why's that?"
