Still More Cleaning

Not knowing if he'd even be a TA in the coming semester, Krycek nonetheless felt the need to be up and doing something. Hence the bucket and mop (stolen from a janitor's closet down the hall), a newly installed coffee machine (from the Journalism classroom) and a growing pile of trash bags in the hallway (that he was hoping wouldn't be his responsibility).

The door's open, the lights are all on, and he wouldn't mind some help, really.

Sometime in the early afternoon, Callisto wandered past the lounge, seeing the door open, she stopped and looked in. "Hey, Kry."

Krycek looked up from the bag he was tying off, somewhat dusty and somewhat grimy. "Callisto, hi," he greeted. Lifting the bag, he hauled it over to the door, out of the way. "Looking for something to do?"

"Yeah, it's been a kinda slow day," Callisto nodded. She walked into the lounge. It looked considerable better than it had before. "Although I did run into Jake earlier."

"I think the couch might need to be replaced," he noted, eyeing the dusty piece of furniture. "It's pretty ratty. Maybe literally, for all I know." Krycek glanced at Callisto as he went to poke the coffee machine to life, figuring it was time for a short break at least. "Yeah? I think he was headed off shopping or something today."

"It was down at the Perk, which I'm sure comes as a huge shock, we talked a bit about the new teachers, what classes we wanted to take this year," Callisto suddenly grinned as if she just remembered something. "By the way, how was your vacation? Do anything interesting?"

"Such a shock, yes, when there's really only one place with sugary coffee water on the whole island." Krycek changed the filter and set the machine, giving Callisto a bemused look at the sudden grin. "It went well, I think." Krycek did not, of course, blush - but there may have been a hint of smugness in his voice. "Yours?"

"Pretty good, did some fun stuff, like not hijacking the radio, going on a squid hunt that turned into ~~skinny-dipping~~ a pool party of sorts, playing with wee Rory who thought she was three, only real downside was Angel getting called home for some big saving the world thing," Callisto cocked her head to the side, "It's good that your trip went well, any details you care to share?"

"Squid hunt? And Angel's okay, I hope? --Sounds like it was an action-packed holiday break, anyway," he said. Krycek gave Callisto a vaguely suspicious look as the coffee machine gurgled, leaning back against the counter with his arms crossed loosely. "We went to Metropolis with Chloe. Stayed in a big hotel courtesy Jake's dad's money and took advantage of all the amenities... And exchanged gifts. It wasn't as exciting as yours, but I can't say I've had a better Christmas that I remember." He eyed her again, waiting for the other shoe to drop.

"Yeah, you remember Sunshine? Drusilla's pet giant squid? As for Angel, I don't even know if he's gotten back yet, let alone how he is," Callisto shrugged. "Sounds like you had fun at least, I was just curious because of something Jake said." Okay it was more how he said it, but Callisto wasn't going to say that.

"Oh?" Krycek picked up a mug he'd used earlier and pulled the carafe from the machine as it finished. "It certainly was fun," he said, emphasizing the last word slightly. "What did he say about it?"

"He didn't go into too many details," or any at all really. "But what he did say was... intriging."

"Coffee?" Krycek nodded to a clean mug standing by the machine, brandishing the carafe if she desired any. "And I'd imagine it would be pretty intriguing. So what did you want to know, exactly?"

"Thanks," Callisto grinned. "I suppose it'd be a bit forward to say everthing, but whatever you'd feel comfortable with sharing..."

"What I feel comfortable with?" Krycek poured some for Callisto, then leaned back again and sipped his own coffee, smirking. "To be coy, I could say 'If there's anything interesting in Metropolis over the holidays, we didn't see it.' Or I could just tell you we had great sex and there's a lot you can do in the better part of a week without even leaving your suite. ...So I suppose it depends on what you feel comfortable hearing."

"Sounds like you definitely had fun then," Callisto grinned. "And you'd be surprised just how comfortable I am hearing things."

"I had a feeling," he confessed, grinning back. "So Angel was away over break? That's a shame." Krycek arched an eyebrow suggestively. "Didn't have a chance to use the shirt then, I guess?"

"Yeah, he was, and no I didn't. Which reminds me," Callisto leaned across to aim a light smack at Krycek's arm. "Not funny."

Krycek snorted and leaned away slightly so as not to jog his coffee mug. "It was, just not to you maybe."

"I'd get you for that," Callisto pointed a finger at Krycek. "But I suspect you'll have your hands full with the new Journalism professor."

"Will I?" He frowned, eyes narrowing; the idea of a new teacher didn't sit well with him. "You know who it is?"

"Some bitch called Rita Skeeter," Callisto crossed her arms and glared at the wall. "Far as I can tell, Professor Jerusalem would probably have kittens if he found out about her."

"Great," he said darkly. "What's she like?"

"So far...she writes outrageous lies about everyone she meets and calls people who aren't magical 'Muggles'."

"Fantastic," he muttered, then looked at Callisto. "What'd she do to piss you off?"

"She wrote outrageous lies about me, worse still about my family." If looks could kill the wall would be very, very dead right now. "I have to get that godsdamned scroll back."

Krycek looked curious, despite himself. "Any idea how?"

"I figure the best way is to get into a position of trust," Callisto looked slightly nauseous. "I going to apply to be a Journalism TA."

Krycek was almost maliciously intrigued now. "Really? ...Look, I have a vested interest in not seeing the entire Journalism department go to pot. So what would you say to a partner?"

Callisto started smirking, "I'd say two heads are better than one. Most of the time."
