Assistants' Lounge, Wed afternoon

With free time before Self-Defense, Angel went down to the Assistants' Lounge and made himself comfortable.

Sean was there. He nosed around all the new things, his attention occasionally drawn to a certain cabinet.

Angel was busy drawing. Depending on when someone looked over his shoulder they might notice rough drafts of campaign posters, sketches of a certain blonde he'd gone out with on Sunday, or pictures that were really not appropriate for children to be looking at this last catagory might or might not have overlapped with the pictures of the blonde.

There was a pot of fresh coffee brewing.

"Thanks," Angel beamed. "I was trying. I really want to work on the superhero thing once I graduate, you know? Though God I hope I don't actually have to have a name."

"I think 'Protector of the city' really says it all. And hey, I have a sidekick name. I just don't use it," Rory shrugged.

"I suppose Angel's kind of a name too," Angel said. "Descriptive, if a little obvious."

"Wee bit," Rory said said wryly. "You don't have any enemies named like, 'Demon,' or anything, do you?"

"Bel's half-demon but that's not in his name as far as I know."

"Knew that, and no, I think he just goes by Belthazor and Cole," Rory scowled. "You know, I really don't like him."

Angel gave a sympathetic sigh. "He does make it difficult. It's hard for him wanting me so bad and never being able to touch to deal with that duality problem. Can't say I don't know where he's coming from."

"He was trying to tell me awhile ago how you shouldn't have had been resouled before there was evidence," Rory said, shaking her head. "Is it actually a duality thing with him, like it is with you? Or is he just capable of being good as well as bad?"

"Dunno," Angel admitted. "He's got as much demon as human working on him. That might be like being a vampire with a soul. I just wish we could get through to him. He loves Phoebe. That means he's got enough human in him that he could try to be good if he just applied himself."

"See, that's what I thought," Rory said, pointing a finger. "He got really mad when I asked if he was just manipulating Phoebe. So I figure he probably does love her."

"I think he loves her, he just doesn't know how to love her." Angel grimaced. "Been there. Not, uh, with Phoebe, obviously."

Rory smiled. "I think a lot of people have that problem, regardless of y'know...." She waved vaguely. "Even we humans. Especially the messed up ones."

"I keep trying to tell myself that." Angel stretched his legs out in front of him. "It's just - I feel like I'm so behind on everything. Buffy always acted like there were things I was supposed to know. It wasn't that I didn't want to know, I just... didn't know. You know?"

"I know," Rory nodded, smiling at the itty bitty bit of repetition. "Um. Not to be like, weird and inviting TMI or anything, but if you ever have questions, you know like, all of us are around to help. Me and John and...probably Logan, too, I guess. I heard you two are friends."

"Yeah, he's been nice to me." Angel rubbed his pencil back and forth on the page in front of him. Not drawing, just making a line. "It's... weird. Nice, but weird. I keep waiting for the shoe to drop."

Rory smiled grimly. "You're a step ahead of me, then. He and I aren't on great terms right now."

"Yeah, kinda picked up on that vibe."

"Perceptive of you." Rory scuffed her shoe. "But, yeah, you don't need me emoing at you about my ex." She glanced at her watch. "And I ought to go put in an appearance in the library."

"I've got Self Defense soon anyway," Angel said. He gave her a sympathetic look. "Though if you ever want to brood about an ex, think I'm a member of that club."

"I can imagine," Rory said lightly. "I may yet take you up on that at some point." She refilled her coffee cup a final time and headed out with a wave. "See you, Angel."
