Assistants' Lounge, Wed 18

With only one class to worry about, Angel had plenty of time to hang out and do nothing pay close attention to his studies.

Currently he was curled up on the couch and reading a large, old, dusty book.

For fun.

Weirdo.

Sean, possessed of a better sense of fun than his dad, was chasing a ball around on the floor.

There was fresh coffee brewing.

[Lounge is for TAs, library/clinic helpers, yadda, yadda, yadda...]

Lana, knowing that Angel sometimes hangs out in the TA's lounge, decided to stop by and see if he might be there. She knocks on the door. "Angel?"

3rd Period

With nothing to do between Shop and U.S. Government, Sam wandered over to the Assistants' Lounge to see who was there.

She yawned and waved as she made her way over to the coffee. "Morning, Angel." Essays just didn't get the blood pumping the way building or blowing up stuff did.

Bel wandered into the Assistant's Lounge to kill some time between classes. He was tempted to be cranky because Angel was already taking up the couch, but instead he smiled to himself, unwilling to let small things bother him when by next week everything would be as it should be.

"Hey, Lana," Angel said. He put a bookmark in his page. "How's it going?"

"Mornin', Sam," Angel said. "How's it going?"

"There's coffee," Angel pointed out, not looking up from his book.

"Okay, same old, you know." She sat down sideways in one of the chairs and hung her legs over the arm, sipping at her coffee. "Congratulations on the election."

"Well, I have a room again," Lana says lightly. "Always a good thing. Congratulations on the Student Council thing, by the way."

She hesitated. "Sorry to bother you here. I just wanted to check in with you about the club idea. I wasn't sure if it was something you were still interested in."

"Why, thank you!" Bel said pleasantly.

Cameron entered the lounge and mumbled something that might sound like 'move' and virtually gave Angel no time to actually move as he plopped down on the couch beside him.

"I'm interested," Angel said, "but since I just got the Student Council thing I'm probably not the best person to head it up. Only so many hours in a day, you know? Think you could do it? I could offer backup support?"

"Thanks," Angel said. "Here's hoping Parker doesn't kill me. I somehow suspect I've only begun to see how much she wants to use me on that job."

Sean came over to say hi to Sam. He held his ball in his mouth in case Sam wanted to throw it for him.

Angel yanked his legs out of the way barely in time. "Hey. What's up?"

Angel looked at Bel suspiciously. "Why are you in a good mood?"

"One piece of advice, don't spar with Aeryn when you've got Self-Defense class the same day and you know she's still annoyed at you." Cameron held a hand in front of his mouth as he yawned.

As he poured himself a cup of coffee (black, of course), Bel said cheerfully, "What, am I not allowed to be in a good mood now?"

"Yeah, Parker's...intense," Sam said, perhaps understating things a little. They got along well, but she was technically forty. Sometimes seeing all that cynicism, ambition, and drive in a seventeen-year-old concerned her.

"You're there for your own reasons, and if they mesh with hers, that's great. I figure you know what you want to accomplish. What is that, by the way?"

She reached down so Sean could sniff her hand, then took the ball and lobbed it (not unlike a grenade) across the room. It bounced against the wall, just missing a lamp. "Oops."

Lana bites her lip. "I guess," she said. "Wow. Hadn't thought about running a club on my own, but... I guess. Let's see, I guess I'd have to talk to the principal to get it okayed."

"There's coffee," Angel pointed. "So how beat up are you?"

"Not without drawing my suspicion, no."

Sean scampered after the ball, barely missing the lamp himself as he tried to catch it.

"Mostly to make sure things get done," Angel said. "I've got some ideas for the senior class I'd like to see represented, but otherwise I just wanna be sure the Council's not filled with folks who were only in it to beef up a resume, you know?"

"It's not so hard," Angel assured her. "Remember to have meetings on time and don't forget to put out food. Ms. Calendar agreed to sponsor it, so you've got that done at least."

He considered it for a moment. Both the coffee and the question. "Enough to remember it for a few days. She's kept you alive so far?"

"That's a good reason," Sam nodded, "and better than most. You're a good guy, Angel."

"Suspicious? Of me? Just because I'm in a good mood?" Bel tsk tsked, his hand over his heart. "Angel, you're paranoid."
