Assistants' Lounge, Wed 18

With only one class to worry about, Angel had plenty of time to hang out and ~~do nothing~~ pay close attention to his studies.

Currently he was curled up on the couch and reading a large, old, dusty book.

For fun.

Weirdo.

Sean, possessed of a better sense of fun than his dad, was chasing a ball around on the floor.

There was fresh coffee brewing.

With nothing to do between Shop and U.S. Government, Sam wandered over to the Assistants' Lounge to see who was there.

She yawned and waved as she made her way over to the coffee. "Morning, Angel." Essays just didn't get the blood pumping the way building or blowing up stuff did.

"Mornin', Sam," Angel said. "How's it going?"

"Okay, same old, you know." She sat down sideways in one of the chairs and hung her legs over the arm, sipping at her coffee. "Congratulations on the election."

"Thanks," Angel said. "Here's hoping Parker doesn't kill me. I somehow suspect I've only begun to see how much she wants to use me on that job."

Sean came over to say hi to Sam. He held his ball in his mouth in case Sam wanted to throw it for him.

"Yeah, Parker's...intense," Sam said, perhaps understating things a little. They got along well, but she was technically forty. Sometimes seeing all that cynicism, ambition, and drive in a seventeen-year-old concerned her.

"You're there for your own reasons, and if they mesh with hers, that's great. I figure you know what you want to accomplish. What is that, by the way?"

She reached down so Sean could sniff her hand, then took the ball and lobbed it (not unlike a grenade) across the room. It bounced against the wall, just missing a lamp. "Oops."

Sean scampered after the ball, barely missing the lamp himself as he tried to catch it.

"Mostly to make sure things get done," Angel said. "I've got some ideas for the senior class I'd like to see represented, but otherwise I just wanna be sure the Council's not filled with folks who were only in it to beef up a resume, you know?"

"That's a good reason," Sam nodded, "and better than most. You're a good guy, Angel."

Angel smiled. "Thanks. Doing my best."

Xander poked his head around the door, spotted Sam, and waved. "So this is the fabled TA lounge? I looked around for it a bit after you mentioned it, then decided it had to be one of those school joke things. Like trying to sell elevator passes to the freshmen when everybody knows we don't have those?"

He spotted Angel on the couch, and - keeping in mind that the last time they'd exchanged any words, at least two of them had been 'fuck this' but also that that'd been over a week ago - gave a noncommittal nod. "~~Hairloaf.~~ Angel."

Sam waved back. "Hey, Xander. How's the new roommate working out?"

She paused and tried to remember if she'd ever seen an elevator. "You didn't do that, did you? Because that would be ~~kinda funny~~ mean."

"She's pretty ~~hot~~ cool. Interesting taste in condiments, but like the guy who talks to his frog has any room to comment?"

Xander shook his head. "And I wouldn't do that to the newbies. ~~I mean who'd believe you'd need to buy an elevator pass?~~ Please. What kind of guy do you think I am?"

"Do I want to know about the condiments? And, er, does the frog answer you?" Around this place, it never hurt to ask these things.

"~~Doctor Jackson probably would,~~" Sam grinned. "And you look like a guy who appreciates a good practical joke."

Xander waved a hand. "Nothing too weird - she's just braver with the spicy than I would be. And Jeremiah hasn't answered me yet, but then, we haven't gotten to Frog yet in Creature Languages either. Maybe his accent in English is really awful and he's waiting until I can speak his lingo instead." His lip twitched upwards, though he didn't sound entirely unserious.

"I appreciate a good practical joke, yeah," Xander admitted. "The gremlin-safety posterd/ I, ah. Mighta helped those along a little. But eh. The elevator thing's lame."

"Tempting as it is to point out Xander is a good practical joke," Angel said, "we do seem to be lacking for those on the newbies."

Wow, people on campus that bickered more than she and Jack. Cool.

"Practical jokes? I'm horrible at coming up with them, but I'm pretty good at helping to make stuff happen, once you've got an idea."

"Yeah, right there with ya," Xander said, ~~pretending to ignore~~ ignoring Angel's snark at him.
