Monday In The Assistants Lounge

Before classes, Phoebe opens up the Assistants Lounge and starts a pot of coffee. She has a pile of paperwork in front of her and is sitting on the couch looking it over.

About ten minutes after Sociology of Violence lets out, Veronica decides to stop by the assistant's lounge for coffee. She's in no way hoping to have a repeat of Friday's visit, though.

She sighs when she sees Phoebe on the couch. Not wanting to disturb her if she's actually napping, she quietly crosses the room to pour a cup of coffee.

"I'm not sleeping," Phoebe says in an empty voice. "If, if you like I can leave."

"Why would I want you to leave?" Veronica asks, still facing the counter and fixing her coffee.

Phoebe sits up and reaches for her coat.

"Because my ex-boyfriend tried to kill you...and your new smoochiepie takes great joy out of rubbing salt into the wounds?"

With a sigh, Veronica turns and leans against the counter. She takes a sip of her coffee as she considers her response.

"Well, considering you know I don't blame you for anything Bel did, I would expect that you wouldn't blame me for something Logan did," she begins.

Phoebe is fighting to get her jacket on and finally throws it back on the couch. "I don't," she sighs. She looks up at Veronica, but her eyes are empty. "I don't. I was just surprised to see you kissing him."

"I'm still a little surprised about the kissing thing, too," she admits with a half smile.

"So what's going on with you?" she asks, her expression shifting to one of concern. "You seemed pretty tipsy that night and there's been some weird stuff on the radio."

"Crowley kept me from killing myself Saturday night," she finally says softly, staring at the floor.

Veronica blinks. Her mind grasps for words and the only one she manages to get out is, "Why?"

"Something happened Saturday night, something bad...very bad. It shattered everything that was within me and then I drank a whole bottle of tequila. I stood on the balcony railing of the Penthouse and just stared down into the empty street." She doesn't look up. "I never imagined he could ahte me so much."

Veronica walks over and sits near Phoebe on the couch.

"What happened?"

Phoebe closes her eyes as the tears slip down her cheeks and hit the floor.

"Let's just say it was enough to make me wish I was dead...and to make me ask Camulus if he would kill me. Obviously he said no."

Phoebe's voice is completely devoid of emotion and she continues staring at the floor. She swallows.

"The radio this morning...they were right."

Veronica stares at her friend, stunned. Hesitantly, she reaches out and puts her hand on Phoebe's shoulder.

"I have no idea what to say," she admits. "Have you talked to Piper?"

Phoebe shakes her head. "I've sort of been hiding ever since I woke up naked next to Crowley yesterday morning. I mean, I know I was drunk...but how could I have betrayed Cole like that?" She swallows. "How could I even face Piper now?"

"First of all, you didn't betray Cole. You guys broke up, you're free to see whoever you want. Second, Piper told me yesterday that she really misses you."

Phoebe looks at Veronica. "I still love him."

Veronica realizes that she would be a hypocrit if she argued with that logic.

"I still think you should talk to Piper," she says, sidestepping the issue of Cole. "She thinks you're upset with her."

"Can't face her after what I did," she mumbles. "Cole came to see me Saturday night. He called me Piper."

"He did what?" Veronica demands. "What the hell?"

This is when Phoebe loses the fight with her self-control and she starts sobbing, managing to get the story of what happened Saturday night out.

"He came to the Arms when Crowley wasn't there. He was holding me, kissing me..." Phoebe shakes her head. "He carried me to the bed...I tld him I missed him and I loved him." She takes a choking breath. "He...he said 'I love you too, Piper'."

"That... makes no sense," Veronica says. "Piper told me yesterday that there was nothing going on with the two of them. And from what I gathered, what happened before wasn't, um, you know, a love type thing." Veronica is flailing faltering because she's confused and hates seeing her friend in so much pain.

"I would if she'd ever call Lindsey and make up with him," Veronica says. "But I want you to be happy, too."
