Assistants' Lounge, Wed afternoon

With free time before Self-Defense, Angel went down to the Assistants' Lounge and made himself comfortable.

Sean was there. He nosed around all the new things, his attention occasionally drawn to a certain cabinet.

Angel was busy drawing. Depending on when someone looked over his shoulder they might notice rough drafts of campaign posters, sketches of a certain blonde he'd gone out with on Sunday, or pictures that were really not appropriate for children to be looking at this last catagory might or might not have overlapped with the pictures of the blonde.

There was a pot of fresh coffee brewing.

"Three months maybe?" Angel guessed. "It's a little weird since I brought him home with me. Guess he's just like me now: no idea what his exact age is."

Rory smiled. "Yeah, I have no idea how old to say Vladdie is, since he's permenantly six weeks old or so, but he ought to be four or five months old now."

"Vamps from my world usually count from the day we died," Angel suggested. "Works pretty well, unless you go cross dimensions and the time's really different."

"Makes sense. And that's easy to count, since I'm pretty sure Zero...vamped him, however she did it, either on my birthday or the day before," Rory nodded.

She crouched so that she was at Sean's eye level. "And you're going to be getting all big pretty soon, huh, boy?" she said, addressing the puppy.

Sean did a small dance of joy, then tried to lick Rory on the nose.

"Yeah, he'll be a big boy by the time he's done," Angel agreed. "Just look at those paws. On the upside, Labs are also pretty smart. I'm hoping to train him to know how to handle himself back home."

Rory scritched Sean behind an ear.

"Yeah, Labs are supposed to be good at tracking, I think," she nodded. "And they're really smart as a breed. Papillions are clever, I think, but scatterbrained. From what I can tell from observing the wee airborne one, anyway. But again - puppy attention span."

"Yeah, hard to tell with that," Angel agreed. "Most pups are easily distracted. I think 'cause everything's new to them."

Rory looked over curiously. "Whatcha drawing?"

Fortunately for him at that moment in time it was a rough draft for a campaign poster.

"This," he said, showing her while holding the book carefully so she couldn't turn the pages ZOMG. "Whaddya think? I'm not sure if the whole champion the voice of the students thing is to... I dunno. Communist."

Rory tilted her head at it. "Well, communism is a good idea. Doesn't work in practice, but nice in theory."

"In theory," Angel agreed. He made a face at his drawing. "Still, champion? Me? God that sounds stupid."

"It's different. I liked your metaphor and stuff in ACJ," Rory offered.

"Oh. Thanks." Angel looked pleased. "I'm not - uh - really good with words. I hope it's what the Professor was looking for."

"It is," Rory nodded. "'Sides, he's not the one who grades them anyway," she added with a grin.

"Ahhhh," Angel said, with understanding. "In which case can I bribe you with another cup of freshly-brewed coffee?"

"You can, though it's unnecessary," Rory laughed. "Your metaphor was one of my favorites, actually. Nice and lengthy."

"Thanks," Angel beamed. "I was trying. I really want to work on the superhero thing once I graduate, you know? Though God I hope I don't actually have to have a name."

"I think 'Protector of the city' really says it all. And hey, I have a sidekick name. I just don't use it," Rory shrugged.

"I suppose Angel's kind of a name too," Angel said. "Descriptive, if a little obvious."

"Wee bit," Rory said said wryly. "You don't have any enemies named like, 'Demon,' or anything, do you?"

"Bel's half-demon but that's not in his name as far as I know."

"Knew that, and no, I think he just goes by Belthazor and Cole," Rory scowled. "You know, I really don't like him."

Angel gave a sympathetic sigh. "He does make it difficult. It's hard for him wanting me so bad and never being able to touch to deal with that duality problem. Can't say I don't know where he's coming from."

"He was trying to tell me awhile ago how you shouldn't have had been resouled before there was evidence," Rory said, shaking her head. "Is it actually a duality thing with him, like it is with you? Or is he just capable of being good as well as bad?"

"Dunno," Angel admitted. "He's got as much demon as human working on him. That might be like being a vampire with a soul. I just wish we could get through to him. He loves Phoebe. That means he's got enough human in him that he could try to be good if he just applied himself."
