Assistants' Lounge, Monday

Bel opened up the lounge after Sociology of Violence, his second period class, determined not to wallow in humiliation any longer. So what if he'd failed ~~again~~? So what if he was the laughing stock of the school? Let them laugh. Next time he'd get it right, and then he'd be laughing as Angelus took his revenge on those who had ensouled him.

Seemingly unconcerned about anything, he sprawled on the couch, reading a book, "Weapons of the Zen Masters."

Blair grinned and shook his head. "Yeah, I guess I should have defined that better."

"Your friend, the old Angel, right? The killing one who's all scary?" Blair made a 'grr' face.

"We villains have hobbies like everyone else," Bel said, smirking. "And sometimes I even do such non-villainous thing as buy my girlfriend presents. And occasionally pet a kitten or puppy."

Alanna pinched the bridge of her nose with one hand. "How. Is. Angel's. Soul. An. Inanimate. Object?" She stuck the hand back behind her back. "You can't just move soul's! Yeah, if you and Angel suddenly switched spots, or Angel and the nieghborhood cow or something, that I would believe. But a soul is not inanimate!" If she wasn't seventeen, she'd be stamping her foot.

"Killing one?" Bel repeated. "Maybe. But so far I haven't seen any evidence that he did what they said he did. A bunch of kids just took justice into their own hands and condemned him just because of what he is." Bel shook his head. "It would've been kinder to kill him. He would rather have had it that way, instead of being tormented like he is now. Unable to be happy. Unable to be with the woman he loves. Do you think that's justice?"

"Then you tell me what happened!" Bel exclaimed. He grit his teeth. "I tried the spell. I happened to think about Angel's soul. I went to bed. And I woke up in the wrong body."

"Why? Can you just explain why to me?" Isabel sighed and sat on the couch. "What's the point of making Angel lose his soul? What's in it for you?"

Blair leaned back and thought. "I don't know about that, mostly because I didn't know Angel before now. He seems happy now, with school and student council and Sean and Callisto. Is stealing that from him now justice? Would you be trying to correct a problem by doing the same thing that you're accusing other people of doing...condemning him just because he's Angel and not your friend?"

"If I'd been trying to make him lose his soul...if...it would be because I made a promise to a friend," Bel said. "But what happened this weekend, that was an accident."

"You wanted Angel's soul of of his body. Everything else was just a combination of the universe having a bad sense of humor and luck." She paused for a second. "Why the hell would you be thinking about Angel's soul in the first place?"

"Angel hates me," Bel said simply. "And I don't care for him. I want my friend back. I need him back."

Bel shrugged. "Because I'd rather he not have it. No secret there."

Blair bounced. "I don't know man, I don't think he hates you. Although I haven't talked to him about it after this weekend."

"So you're angry that people didn't care for your friend and changed him because of that, yet you're willing to do the same thing. What makes your needs more important than theirs? And why do you need him so badly?"

"That's funny," Isabel may have snorted, just a bit. "Because I made a promise to a friend as well, except it involved a stake and making sure he died. So I think I'm pretty happy that your accident didn't do any lasting harm."

Alanna counted back from five in her head. "And putting the rest of the student body in danger is just a small side-effect?"

"Promised Angel you'd stake him if he lost his soul then? Good to know," Bel said with a little laugh. "Be careful trying that. Not as easy as it sounds."

"Putting something back to rights isn't wrong, is it?" Bel said. "As for why...it's a lot of reasons you would never understand."

Another shrug. "You wouldn't understand."

"Try me." Alanna snapped out almost automatically. "Look, I was one of those few people who had nothing against Angelus. Up until he started killing people. Why do you want that back?"

Bel sighed. "Why the hell should I tell you?" he snapped.

Blair frowned. "Well, gee mister, that's awful smart of you to not tell the kiddies anything important. I hope I can grow up to be as condecending."

"Angel's a human that was turned into a vampire that was given a soul that got taken away that got given back. Exactly how far are you going to go to put things back to 'right'?"

"I'm sure it's not," Isabel agreed. "But hopefully I'll never be put in a position to have to find out. But then I guess that all depends on whether or not you have any more accidents."

Opening her salad Isabel speared a tomato with a little more force then necessary. "In the mean time, I suppose we're all supposed to get along like good little students."

"Fine." Alanna spun on her toe and would have stormed out of the room, if the door was not shut. Instead, she wound up smacking into it, face first. "OW!" She took two steps back and conjured up a small purple ball and tossed it at the door. The door barely registered the damage, but Alanna felt better. Taking a deep breath, she left the lounge, letting the door slam behind her.

Bel gave Blair a dark look. "What gives you the idea I would want to pour my heart out to you?" he said. "You don't know what it's like to be a demon or what duties or obligations we have. And anything I told you would go straight to Angel's ear, wouldn't it?"

Bel picked his book back up. "Huh," he said as Alanna left. He resumed reading.

"I guess so," Bel said. "Trying to vanquish other students is generally frowned upon."
