Assistants' Lounge, Thursday 1/26

The roof was too bright and visible during the day, and the attic reminded Bel too much of Phoebe, so he retreated to the lounge to spend the day brooding. And quite possibly, plot the ways he was going to make Logan Echolls suffer.

Bel sat on the couch, his head in his hands. "Not in the mood," he said.

"Oh, I'm sorry." Angel folded his arms. "I wasn't aware we could take rain checks on ass kicking now. Explain to me in very small words why I'm not killing you."

Bel sat up and steeled himself. "Because you're a hero," he said sarcastically.

"And you're doing your damnedest to be a bad guy," Angel replied. "Plus you're a demon. I've checked the good guy rule book. I'm allowed to kill those. Or do things like accidentally push you into a tank of really hungry sharks and forget to throw in a life preserver."

Bel stood up and spread his arms wide, smirking. "Then go ahead. Kill me. It's what you're going to have to do to stop me. Think you can take me, Angel?"

"I know I can take you," Angel said. "Or did I beat you so hard the first time we tried this that you forgot?"

"I underestimated you then," Bel said. "After all, I hadn't gone up against you before. Now I know better. So, you want to step outside? Oh, that's right, you can't. Must make it awfully hard to protect some people when you can't be out with them in the daylight. Too bad I don't have that weakness."

"Tell you what," Angel said, "How's about you go out through that window and find out if that stops me from killing you?"

"Go for it," Bel sneered. "You don't have the guts. Angelus would if I pissed him off, but you're just a pale shadow of what he was."

Angel stepped forward. "Bet you have the guts. Bet we could test that theory if I jammed a knife into your stomach."

"Try it!" Bel snarked, taking a step forward as well. "You don't know how much I've been waiting to go up against you again."

"Yeah, I'll bet," Angel laughed. "Tell me, was the secret of this last attempt that you weren't even bothering with the soul at all? You really did just want to get into my pants that badly?"

"What's the matter, nervous about how close I got this time?" Bel said, chuckling. "You know what they say, third time's a charm."

Angel's eyes narrowed. "What do you have planned?"

"You'll just have to wait and see, won't you?" Bel said. "But in the meantime, I'm sure I can find ways to amuse myself."

"And you would know," Bel said. "Tell me, do you always think of me, or do you sometimes let Callisto join in?"

"For killing you? I just might," Angel said. "You're racking up quite a list of people who want to see you dead and tortured. I'd ask if this was some kind of extroverted suicide, but you know, somehow I just can't seem to care."

"Then why don't you get to it?" Bel asked. "Or are you all talk, no action? What's it going to take to get you to actually make a move instead of trying to talk me to death?"

Angel moved to shove Bel up against the wall because honestly this scene hasn't been slashy enough and clearly we need to fix that "Oh make no mistake. I start on you, you'll know it. You tried to kill me! Twice! Did you think I was going to let that go?"

Bel grinned as Angel pushed him against the wall. "Show me what you've got," he said. "Show me what you're made of. I've been dying to see if you've got Angelus as tightly controlled as you seem to think. Why don't you let him out to play?"

"This what you've sunk to now?" Angel asked. "Spells didn't work so you're going to ask Angelus to come back by saying 'pretty please'?"

"Worth a shot." Bel shrugged, still grinning. "But next time won't be a spell. Already learned my lesson there. I've got something else in mind, and trust me, you won't see it coming. You can't stop me, and you know it, that's why you're trying -- and failing -- to intimidate me."

"Sorry, was there a threat in there?" Angel asked. "I zoned out when I realized you've played this record before. Tell you what, though? You try hurting me again, you try hurting my friends again, just watch how awake I get. Should be fun."

"Promises, promises," Bel said. "I keep waiting for you to do something, and I keep being disappointed. As for your friends, well, Echolls is going to pay for what he did, and there's nothing you can do about it."
