With only one class on Friday, Bel opened up the Assistants Lounge and settled in for a relaxing day of reading up on Japanese weddings.

A brief look of shock crossed Angela's face as she recognized Bel before it settled back into happy smugness. "I am, I guess. Too good of one to let anyone ruin it for me."

"Expecting me to try that?" Bel asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I have no idea what to expect from you, no offense." She tilted her head at him. "But I don't see fireballs yet, so I assume that's out."

"Well, this is a non-smoking area," Bel said lightly. He wasn't in the mood to start trouble, at least not with Angela.

"I'm glad to know you abide by that rule," Angela said, equally lightly. She sensed that whatever had happened between Bel and Marty, it didn't seem to involve her, right then. Which was good, given her mood.

"So ... what's with you and Phoebe? It sounded like the pirate was pretty confused on the radio this morning. Not that this is a new situation for him."

"We're, uh, working things out," Bel said, still unhappy with the discussion they'd had that morning. "We're not together together, but we're working on it," he said. He cocked his head at Angela. "And we kinda have your old boyfriend to thank for that."

Angela squinted. "I noticed you guys were less glary than usual in the library this week," she said. "What did he do?"

"He came to me with what he said was a foolproof way to get Phoebe back," Bel said. "Not sure why he cared so much, but he's the one who got me to sing to her at Caritas. Had to make a big gesture to show her how I felt."

At the back of her mind, Angela felt a stab of jealousy. Marty hadn't tried a big gesture on her, but he'd play Cupid for a demon?

Weird.

Wondering why she cared so much, she tried her best to keep her tone light.

"Lucky Phoebe, I guess," she said. "I mean ... you guys seem good for each other. Mostly. And don't ask me why Marty did that. He seems to have been in an interesting mood this week."

"Yeah, I've heard he's been talking to himself, too," Bel said. "Did he get hit over the head or something while he was playing vampire hunter?" He kept his tone light, not accusatory.

"Don't think so," Angela said, recognizing her chances to keep this encounter light were rapidly fading. "I think Logan Echolls was the one with the concussion."

She stood, picking up her bookbag and backing toward the door. "I should probably get back to the library. I think I left my government book, and I should, you know. Get it."
